With first estimates nearly double the price expected, commissioners say there’s no way around spending money to repair colossal damage to a portion of Jones Mountain Road from a landslide last month.
Jones Mountain Road has been closed since Friday, Feb. 22. Traffic has been rerouted along narrow, gravel roads – the only alternative routes in the area – through Trout Farm and West Price Creek roads. At the commissioners’ work session on Thursday, March 7, Public Works Director Kim Quinton admitted the 4.7-mile detour is inconvenient, and asked the public to “bear with us” through the repair process. It is expected the road will be closed for several weeks, but Commission Chair Rob Jones said he wants to get the ball rolling on repairs as soon as possible.
